I went to SacAnime today by myself, and well... It didn't start out so well. I walked around the dealer's room a few times (carrying my HUGE Boota costume), checked out what was going on, concluded the answer was "not much", and ended up going into the lobby with my Boota costume and wearing it for a few hours despite the heat.

I actually found a sweet pair of Simon and Nia cosplayers that I met at Fanime as well this way, so I spent quite a while hanging around with them and posing for pictures. Strangely, hardly anyone recognized us at SacAnime, which is unusual considering Gurren Lagann's popularity. When people asked who we were, we would tell them "Gurren Lagann" and get just about nothing but blank stares or "Oh, I think I might've heard of that somewhere..." It's weird, because sometimes I feel like SacAnime is a warp to a few years ago--there are a lot more cosplayers of older series (and TONS of Naruto cosplayers) and it seems like everyone is oblivious about newer series. After Simon and Nia left, I started talking to two random teenage girls and an eight-year-old girl who was tagging along with them. The four of us spent a lot of the day together, though they seemed a little more...low-key, I guess, than I am. Still, they were nice and we got along well. I'm sad I didn't get to say goodbye to them because they sort of just disappeared after Masquerade.

Then during Masquerade line, I met another girl and she and I ended up becoming friends. It turns out she's been to even more conventions than I have, and she and I had fun swapping convention stories and whatnot. After Masquerade was over, she introduced me to her friends and said that she was planning leaving the convention before she met me, but I made the convention fun for her. Awwww! ♥ I felt the same way, actually, because the convention was pretty dull for a while and I was wondering if I had been worth going to after all.

Masquerade itself was certainly not impressive, but it was a lot of fun. The audience was extremely enthusiastic and it was the audience reaction to things that made the mostly fairly mediocre skits quite entertaining. There were lots of technical difficulties but the staff was clear with us about them and none of the delays were longer than ten minutes even though there were quite a few of them. I loved the costumes of the hosts (lovely VOCALOID costumes) and the costumes of the judges (equally impressive Ranka, Sheryl, and Alto cosplayers from Macross Frontier). It was fun and didn't drag at all. A few of the skits were really good.

After that, my new friend Danielle and I, along with her friends (who by association became my friends) sat outside the building the convention is in under the stars for a few hours and talked about such varied topics as fangirls, time travel, Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, physics, the meaning of life, and what would happen if aliens appeared right then and turned our lives into an amazing anime series. Among other things. We also played that game where you all cross your arms and hold hands with the other people and try to untangle everything. Great fun, great fun.

I'll be seeing Danielle again at YaoiCon! I think she'll make an excellent con-going friend because she goes to a ton of them like I do and seems generally awesome.

Tired now, bedtime. ♥ It was fun, though. :)
