Today was somewhat busy and now I'm exhausted.
Well, no one would take Saturdays in our rehab duty schedule, so we're taking turns doing them. Mine was today, which was fine because all I had was two self-feeding birds anyway.
I was up until 4 AM last night, though, and naturally the calls started coming in pretty early. XD I think I'm beginning to become more competent at pretending I didn't just wake up when talking on the phone, though, haha. Anyway, the first call that came in requires a little bit of backstory:
There's a peacock that lives down the street at my dad's house. I don't know if he actually belongs to anyone, he just hangs out in that area and (from what I've gathered) he's generally well-liked in the neighborhood. Well, my dad was out running yesterday and he saw the peacock come skidding in. At first he thought the peacock was just goofing around or something, but then he realized the peacock was injured, feathers were everywhere, and this was because the peacock had just been hit by a car. :( He called me yesterday about it, but I said animal control will probably deal with it first (seeing as a policeman was already there when dad went past).
Guess what the first call I got this morning was? Yep.
I couldn't take the peacock, as much as I would love to, because I don't have a place for it to go. Thankfully, Tracey has a partly-finished flight cage that's perfect, and from what I've heard the peacock isn't injured very badly at all. So he's recuperating in Tracey's partially-finished flight cage for the time being, and we'll release him back in the neighborhood once he's all the way better. :D
I got in a very wild and very loud (and thankfully, very healthy!) stellar's jay fledgling. He's not terribly happy about being in the basket and keeps trying to escape, but hopefully I can find him a friend tomorrow so he'll feel more at ease. It's remarkable how much difference a companion makes to a bird.
Next intake was an absolutely adorable and sweet fledgling robin that also--shockingly--has nothing wrong with it. :) It's been a while since I've had a robin, but they're just the sweetest things to raise ever. I'm so happy to have one again! ♥ Also called about a companion for the robin.
And the final intake is an adult injured grosbeak. He was caught by a cat and has something wrong with him, but I'm not sure yet what it is. Possibly internal injuries? He had blood all over his beak and he seems reluctant to fly, but there's nothing wrong with his wings or legs as far as I can tell. Anyway, he's got quite the personality. He doesn't thrash, scream, or attempt to flee like most adult injured birds do, but he just quietly watches you and bites if you put your hand too close. He managed to get me one time, and I must say--a grosbeak bite is much more powerful and painful than you'd expect from a straight-billed bird. It didn't break the skin or bruise or anything, but it hurt quite a bit.
I managed to get him to eat some pieces of strawberry off of my tweezers, and also got some water in him by offering him droplets on the tip of the tweezers. He's awfully skinny. :( I'm hoping he makes it through the night. He seems spirited, but I'm nervous because of his weight and lack of panic. We'll see!
I moved from mom's to dad's midday, and I forgot my 1 CC syringe (for administering antibiotics) at mom's, so we had to go meet her at Ridge feed to get it. *Facepalm* There were some adorable roosters roaming free there, though--a Buff Black-Tailed Japanese and two Golden Seabrights. I would have kidnapped them (I'm pretty sure they're just "stray" roosters anyway) if it wasn't for the fact that my rooster would kill them. And that my current chicken population is basically at comfortable coop capacity.
On a completely random note, mom was at the farmer's market today and (I don't know the whole story, so I'll just go off the little she said) some guy approached her and asked her if she had young kids or grandkids. She said no, she has late teen/adult kids, but he gave it to her anyway and said we could sell it on Ebay or something. It's an original, autographed drawing of one of the characters from Dragon Tales, because apparently he's one of the creators or developers of the show. So that's why I saw a custom license plate that had some amalgamation of Dragon Tales on it! I was wondering about that.
Still, LOL. WTF? I have it in my bird paperwork right now until I decide what to do with it. O__o; Kind of funny.
I got a HUUUGE Elekid pillow plush in the mail today. I'll be selling him once my zukan arrive to try and earn more money for AX. He's really fluffy and adorable in the meantime, though. I have him sitting in my desk chair and he takes up basically the whole thing, hahaha.
MACROSS FRONTIER 11. I could go on about it for ages like
wao and I have been doing in comments (MUST REPLY TO YOUR LAST COMMENT WHEN I HAVE TIME), but suffice to say it was very bittersweet. Awwww, that last scene. ;__; I understand why Alto made the choice he did (and I don't think it had anything to do with Sheryl, but with the fact that he could fly freely), but it made me sad that he didn't even go see Ranka for a little bit before he left. Or at least call her... There's something about Ranka that makes me protective of her, and I don't normally get that way towards characters excluding, of course, Haraken, but let's not get into that. Fangirling this series so hard. XD I'm going to be excited for/anticipating every new episode until the series ends, I think. It's so fun fangirling this show because it's so...entertaining? Debatable? Charming? I don't know. I'm just having a grand time.
The new ending theme is so adorable. It makes me feel super-sentimental.
OKAY I'M STOPPING THERE. If I continue I'll never stop, and I have a headache so I really should stop.
I still have so many comments to catch up on! And anime, of course. Sorry I'm not getting to all of you as quickly as I normally do. :(
Bed now.
