Sorry about the gloomy entry last night, everyone. I considered making it private, but for some reason I don't like having entirely private entries. They just seem pointless to me. Anyway, I feel better about everything today. ♥

I somehow forgot to write about it yesterday, but we got new fish yesterday! Finally. All we had before was a single skunk loach who basically buried himself under the gravel and didn't come out during the day at all (dad suggested we name him Waldo), and now we have added an angelfish, a clown loach, a flame-morph dwarf gourami, and two rosy barbs. Waldo has also emerged from his hiding spot in honor of the occasion. They seem to be doing well so far. 8D I'll have to take a picture of them soon. Apparently our new camera has an Aquarium setting, which is bizarre but apparently marginally useful.

OH, AND A SHRIMP. I HAVE A PET SHRIMP NOW. Haha, it somehow accidentally got in the bag with the rosy barbs, so the pet store let us have it for free. It's this weird little transparent guy, about .75" or so, and I'm weirdly obsessed with it. Another strange pet to add to the list.

Even though I only got three or four hours of sleep last night, today was a nice day. It began with KK, Ari, and I having a deep and meaningful discussion on evolution versus creationism. Somehow, by the time we got down to Rocklin, it became a rather ridiculous discussion about slash. It was kind of hilarious when we realized how far the conversation had deviated from its originally rather weighty and intelligent discussion.

Morning classes were uneventful. While I was doing homework, I listened to the Once soundtrack a bunch and these awesome remixes I have of The Last Unicorn theme. ♥ that song.

However, after Calculus, I hopped on a bus and headed off to UC Davis for a field trip to the dairy department. The dairy farm was clean and nice, and all the cows looked healthy. I can't believe how complex a task raising cattle is, seriously. The guy who was giving us the tour told us all about the raising, milking, feeding, and birthing processes, and a lot of it was extremely detailed and intricate like you wouldn't believe. It's amazing how much effort goes into keeping it efficient and low-cost, even if I don't morally agree with everything they do. (Culling a cow because ONE of her nipples is non-functional? That seems a bit extreme.) Anyway, regardless of my own personal views on animals and business, it was quite fascinating. The calves were adorable, too! They had a bunch of young ones in these little pens that were somewhat reminiscent of a small dog run with a dog house.

On a random note, as we were leaving the diary farm, a whole crowd of guinea fowl walked past making the most hilarious and strange noises. I must admit, I have the weirdest sense of humor (especially when it comes to birds, as my friends can attest) and I was laughing to myself for like five minutes straight. XD I'm so very dysfunctional, hahaha.

When we finished with the farm, we went up to the milk lab, where we did an analysis on the contents of several types of milk, and then made ice cream and butter. 8D They were both SO DELICIOUS, OMG. ♥ That ice cream was probably some of the best ice cream I've ever had.

([livejournal.com profile] ylmik_wisty, I was so close to calling you from the farm just to say hi, but it ended up being busier than I anticipated. XD)

After that, we headed back on the bus, and I carpooled with KK and Ari as usual back to Grass Valley.

It's Zephyr's fifth birthday tomorrow! (Zephyr is my Pacific Parrotlet, for those who don't know.) Yes, his birthday is April Fool's. I also have tomorrow off, which makes me incredibly happy.

MAYBE I'LL ACTUALLY MAKE COSPLAY PROGRESS TOMORROW :O

I wouldn't bet on it. But you never know. >__>
