My efforts at doing internet-related things have been thwarted the last few days. The day before last, the internet was mysteriously not working, and yesterday our power was out from about 6 PM until 1:30 AM or so thanks to the snowstorm that was going on.

Instead, my dad and brother and I ended up playing poker (and betting nothing but strange-sounding animals, which made for some rather non-competitive games) by candlelight and going out to dinner in a part of town that wasn't affected by the power outage. My dad kept going on and on and on about the Donner Party, except he doesn't actually remember anything about the Donner Party so basically he was just making wisecracks about how we were beginning to look tasty. Oh, dad, you're so strange.

I started Baccano! but because I was on a limited amount of battery life, I was only able to watch one episode, which isn't enough for me to form any solid opinion whatsoever. Well, normally it's enough to form a preliminary opinion of sorts, but the first episode was a little confusing, so I'm just going to keep watching and hope it all straightens out. It seems interesting so far, though, from the little I gathered.

A few days ago, I was sitting in the cafeteria in Rocklin and a Japanese girl came up to me and asked, "Oh, do you like Suzumiya Haruhi?" (My laptop has a Haruhi skin on it. See here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v389/pacificpikachu/Room/Photo131-1.jpg) When I acknowledged that I, indeed, do like Suzumiya Haruhi and that I'm a big anime fan, she got all excited and acted really surprised, as though this is terribly unusual. I guess she doesn't find many other anime fans around? Anyway, she and I ended up talking about various anime series for about a half hour before I had to rush off to Calculus, but it was nice getting to talk to her. She's familiar with all of the newer series, which was refreshing as a lot of the anime fans I meet are only into older series or really mainstream ones--which is fine, but it gets a bit irritating after a while when you want to talk about newer stuff.

I'm amused that her name is Maaya. Like Maaya Sakamoto! Man, I'm such a geek. :< I gave her my e-mail before running off to class, so we've been e-mailing each other anime wallpapers. XD It's generally fun to find random anime fans unexpectedly, which is one of the reasons I love my geeky Haruhi laptop. ♥ Granted, it's initiated a few awkward conversations with some odd characters, too (but this is expected when it comes to anime fans, right?), but for every weird person who starts talking to me as a result of the laptop, there's at least two who are actually cool and fun to talk to.

Today was exceptionally boring and for some reason I felt frustrated at anime fandom in general. I have no idea why, but I blame hormones because now I can't remember what this frustration was over or what significance it had at all. I think it was just unreasonable, though I do have some minor frustrations with anime fandom as of late. They're just quibbles, seriously. XD I don't know why I didn't use the day to do something vaguely productive like watching anime, but I didn't. I wanted to hang out with someone because I felt kind of lonely, but KK was snowed into her own driveway, Nicole wasn't answering her phone, and my dad didn't want anyone over anyway. I ended up talking to Daniell in depth about Gurren Lagann, Death Note, and various other things for about an hour and a half or two hours. Or maybe more. I get a little carried away on the phone sometimes, but it's fun at least!

The lovebird's name is now officially Oliver. I don't know why, I don't know where it came from, it seems a little plain for such a colorful bird, but that's what it is. I'm sick of over-thinking it excessively. It's like I'm waiting for some Mystical Perfect Name that will come down from the skies and enlighten me, and if I keep agonizing over it he'll never have a name. So his name is Oliver. He is green, olives are green, and the name Oliver just fits him, I guess. IDK. I'm going to add him to my pet list on Facebook before I change my mind. XD Unless some Perfect Name does appear shining from the heavens (which I somehow doubt it will), in which case I guess I'll just change it.

He also has a new (probably permanent, unless he's too loud or the cats start bothering him) place in the household next to the cockatiel cage, in between the living room and the kitchen. Holly and Lucy (the cockatiels) are utterly baffled by his presence and keep giving him weird looks, but he seems somewhat smitten with them and keeps doing little head-bob dances at them to try to get their attention. It's funny because Lucy just stares at him outright with this look of incredulity on her face, while Holly stares at him out of the corner of her eye as though she's pretending not to look at him.

My cockatiels are so funny. Holly's an utter pessimist who hisses at anyone who comes close, looks grumpily at you if you approach her, pretends to be utterly uninterested in anything you do, and makes nasty lowered-crest faces all the time, but she's actually really sweet despite her attitude. In all the years I've had her, she's never bitten me once, and she's very well-behaved. She just...is a pessimist. That's the best way I can put it.

Lucy is a crippled bird. We got her for free from a breeder who obviously hadn't treated her all that well--her feet are deformed, probably due to a lack of turning of the egg when she was incubating, she has almost no sense of balance and sometimes just falls off the perch at random, and the top of her head is permanently bald and crest-less because her mate Ricky picked at the feather shafts until they were destroyed. Despite all of her physical shortcomings, she's OPTIMISTIC AND HAPPY ALL THE TIME. ^___^ She chirps really loudly in a way that reminds me vaguely of an "OMGYAY", and anything you do is automatically amazing and chirp-worthy. She goes wild with happiness if you take her in the shower or bring her somewhere new. It's hilarious and adorable.

Hmmm, I have to go take the dogs out, so I suppose that's all for now.

Your mood-icon kicks ass.

Yay! Oliver! I love that name. That's one of my all time favorite male names!

I have a question. See my response to you comment on my journal to answer it. *Whew* That was convoluted.

Doesn't it? I love having my Haruhi mood theme. It's lovely and amusing. It was a surprising amount of work getting it up, but it amuses me enough that I don't mind.

I know, I like the name, too. :) I've always thought about naming something Oliver, and this guy just happens to be the random victim of the name. It fits, though. :D

Answered!

Yay! Thanks. I'm a little less insecure now.

Antoher "good" (in my opinion) name occurred to me. Yes, I love the name Oliver but I was just thinking about how colorful and "fruity"-looking he was and I thought Snapple would be a cute name.

I know, evil multi-million dollar corporation and all... but it's just such a fun word... Snapple.

But, I love Oliver. I'm so happy. I should seriously post the list of "my all time favorite male names" that I made forever ago, on livejournal... That was convoluted too, I know. I am the master of bad sentences tonight. I blame it on the fact that I did absolutely nothing today... Except cook dinner.

Baccano! I've still only watched er, two episodes of that. I do find it interesting though, so I am planning to watch more. Hopefully I'll remember. At the moment I haven't started anything in the new season because school's killing me and I haven't had time to do a bit of research to see what's good to watch. :<

I love hearing about your birds! Lucy inspires me. 8)

Snapple is another one of those names that sounds really cute when you write it down, but it sounds weird when you say it out loud like a pet name. >_> "Snapple, Snapple!" Oh man, I'm one of those weird artist-types who is totally overly picky about the strangest things. :( Like the ugly architecture on the Rocklin campus. Totally ruins my study habits.

Hm, I feel kind of convoluted tonight, too. (I kept having to delete and rewrite parts of my entry because I was abusing parentheses and creating sentences that don't make sense.) Don't worry about it.

I've heard a lot of wonderful things about it, so hopefully it'll end up being as enjoyable as I've heard it is! ♥

If you ever need recs, let me know! I'm pretty good at keeping up with what's good, what's bad, what's interesting, etc. So when you get more time, I can hook you up with some of the better stuff from this season/the last few seasons. :D

I hope school lightens up soon!

And, yes, Lucy is an inspiration to us all. XDDD LOL, I love her. ♥

Amazing, I thought I was just completely illiterate tonight. Bah.

Oh yeah, and the rocklin architecture bothers the hell out of me too. You are not alone.

God I love birds, but I'm scared silly by them. Like I think they're beautiful and I love to chirp back but I'm so scared to hold them because they're so small and fragile. D=

Baccano is absolutely lovely. The first couple episodes are confusing but everything comes together brilliantly in the end and it will all make sense. Each episode is sort of like a piece of a puzzle so think of it that way. :)

It also has some great and memorable characters.

Yes, that's what I've heard about it! I'm looking forward to seeing more. I'd be rather surprised if I didn't end up liking it.

Aww, I've always wanted to meet a Japanese otaku! And I've heard of anyone other than Sakamoto, fictitious or not, named Maaya! That's pretty cool.

Aww, that's still a nice name.

Baccano, eh? Some really creepy guy at college was telling me to see it, but I didn't take his advice. Tell me if it's good! :D

Also, btw... I found a note your mom wrote back in '06 telling Mr. Humphers that you couldn't participate in P.E.

Haha! I'm so amused by the fact that I have no idea why I have this, but I'm definitely planning on saving it (for no reason whatsoever.) XD

I will! I've heard it's good from a number of people who have extremely similar tastes to mine, so I'm hoping it'll turn out as good as I've heard it is.

WHY, ZOE, WHY? Hahaha, that's so random. It can bring back happy memories...or something. O_o;

DIABEETUS, HELL YEAH

By the way, I'm kidnapping you. Somehow.

Yes, you totally should. Please kidnap me! ;_;

I wish I could. T__T I miss you so much! I'm not just saying that, either--I keep thinking, "Ah, I wish Zoe was here. She would appreciate this [weird thing/thought/obsession/anime/creepy doodle/whatever]."

When is your Spring Break? Maybe if we're lucky they'll line up and we could arrange something. :O If not, then you have to come live here for week or two at some point like you did this summer. That was awesome.

;_; I miss you toooo! We should get together next break and... do something cool! Like... celebrate our 3rd year wedding anniversary! (Since we skipped last year's.)

From: [identity profile] pacificpikachu.livejournal.com
Definitely! Let me know when you're free, and we'll arrange something! I know I have March 14 (BIRTHDAY) through March 23rd off, so if you have that off, too, maybe we can work something out. If not, we'll find some other time.

When do you get out of classes? My last day is May 8th, so if you're free before Fanime maybe you could come stay before (or after) Fanime. :D

Sounds awesome! I'll figure out when my break is and let you know!
