Today was eventful in its own random way. :P
I woke up (albeit rather slowly--I was up until about 1 AM last night finishing Great Expections, which I enjoyed quite a lot) and took a shower pretty much right away. I then spent a great deal of time waiting for Mom to cut my hair, as Mom's [heavily pregnant, horror of all horrors] friend showed up and wouldn't stop talking to her. It was scary. Very, very scary. It was a great relief when she left. Unfortunately, the scissors are so dull they barely work any more (even when sharpened), so Mom cutting my hair was a slightly exasperating experience.
I spent quite a while on animal chores after that. I cleaned the guinea pig cage and the bird cage and swept the bathroom and such... The guinea pigs were out in their little cage for quite a while today, but just as I was planning on calling
hitchi, it started to rain again, so I had to run outside to get them.
Hitchi and I had a rather short conversation, and her mom seems to be adamantly against her coming to Anime Expo with us, so that was kind of discouraging... It was nice to talk to Hitchi, though, while it lasted. I hope your mom isn't mad at me, Hitchi-chan. ;_;
After that, my day got exciting. Well, exciting by my standards, anyway. To get myself hyped up, I looked at cosplay pictures on CosplayLab.com for about an hour, and then started laying my materials out on my "work space" (AKA the kitchen table). I got working on my Akamaru mask, and that took up a good two and a half hours of feverish working. This was quite the adventure, let me say. :p
The first dilemma (and one of the only dilemmas, but that's beside the point) was that I had no idea how to attach the styrofoam cone that was to be the base for the nose. I thought about it, and I thought about it, and I finally reached a solution. It was one of these--*ping*--lightbulb moments. So, I cut off the bottom half of the mask with the uber-dull scissors, took some of the sculpting wire and cut it into the shape of the missing piece of mask, took an old t-shirt and cut it up (this was painfully slow--the scissors were hellish to work with), and used the material from the t-shirt to line both sides of the sculpting wire. Then I hot-glue-gunned the piece of flexible wire covered in fabric into the mask and molded it to my face shape. From there, I used a bunch of hot glue to glue the base of the styrofoam to the fabric and wire.
I then started mixing the Celluclay up (Ryan was really excited about this part). It was icky and weird and wonderful at the same time. I used the Celluclay to further attach the cone to the mask, and I basically coated the whole mask using it. It was a messy, very odd experience. It was really hard to get off of my hands. After about an hour of tireless sculpting, I finally reached a point where I felt the work was satisfactory. The eyes are a little to close together and forward (which can't be helped, as it was originally a human mask) and the nose is a tad too long and straight, but it'll certainly do. I blowdried it for a while, and then proceeded to paint around the eyes, nose, and mouth just for the fun of it. I'm pretty sure it's going to be furred over, so the painting doesn't really matter, but it was fun anyway. I then glazed the nose and put varnish over the rest of the mask. Twice, just to be sure.
So, that was loads of fun. ^_^
After that, we went out to dinner at a pizza place. This was relatively uneventful. We ate pizza, garlic bread, and salad and watched the Kings game (though we luckily left before the game ended--thank Mew). I doodled on papers I found in Mom's purse. Mom was impressed although the drawings were less than mediocre. I suggested we go to Mekka and was surprised Mom wanted to go, too.
I had some fairy tea at Mekka, and shared this yummy raspberry white chocolate cheesecake thing with Mom, Ryan, and Dylan (Ryan's friend/Nicole's brother, for those who don't know). Showed Mom my classmate Kate Bowman's art, which is currently displayed. She didn't like it. O_o; Said it was too "bold". Hmph. Critical Aries. I think she's amazing, anyhow.
We dropped Dylan off at his house, and Mom insisted on going to Longs. I stayed in the car.
Some rather curious things happened while I was in the car. Well, not really curious...just kind of...I don't know. For one, I started feeling really desperate. Like...I started thinking about my situation again, and just felt...hopeless. Trapped. Gah. It really...started hurting again. I found changing the music (which had previously been random AMV music) helped a little, as I became intensely involved in the Ayumi Hamasaki CD I put in (Rainbow, in case you were wondering). I really like that CD. Anyway, that helped a little, but I still felt pretty awful about the whole thing. Mom and Ryan ended up staying in the Longs for...almost an hour. @_@ I started drawing in the fog on the window with my fingers and writing messages in Japanese and such, all while listening to the CD, thinking about AMVs, and angsting pretty seriously all at once. I'm...really not so sure about accepting everything. It's just...so hard.
We went home after that, and that's pretty much where I am.
All and all, I think my horoscope sums up the day best (ironically enough):
"You like to work hard and you like hard work. You could get trapped, though, in the pattern of avoiding other things (uncomfortable emotions, sadness, anger) by staying really busy. Are you doing this? Check for symptoms. Ask yourself: Are you not taking care of yourself because you're too busy? Are you putting off conflict because you have too much work? Are you happy? Do you know how you feel at all?"
So true. At least all the cosplay stuff made me feel better... Right now I'm all right, but, like I've said, I swing back and forth like a pendulum emotions-wise.
