I saved two animals today, so I feel happy. :3

This morning, before we left to go to my Health class, I was standing out in front of the house. A lizard skittered past me, but I was busy putting CDs in the car, so I ignored it. Well, CC pounced up out of nowhere, pinned the poor little bluebelly down with her paw, and carried it off in her mouth. I didn't like that, so I chased CC down and made her drop the lizard. I picked him up without any difficulty because he was frozen with shock. He was, however, without any injuries, so I took him elsewhere and tried to release him. He remained frozen with shock for about five minutes, but eventually snapped out of it and ran off into the bushes. Success #1.

About twenty minutes ago, Ryan burst into my room while I was doing my Health homework with something in his hand. "This bird was drowning in the water trough, and I think he has water in his lungs!" So, I took ahold of the bird, who looked more like a dark mass of feathers at that moment, and patted his back with my fingers until the rasping in his lungs stopped. Ryan and I were worried he would die of shock (which frequently happens with captured birds), but he continued flailing a little and following me with his eyes, so I concluded he probably wouldn't go into shock. I put him in a box with a towel and stuck him outside for a moment to regain his bearings, and then brought him back inside.

When he started to dry off a little, I concluded he was a baby scrub jay. Baby not because he was small (he was normal scrub-jay-size), but because he still had the dark fluff of a fledgling over the radiant blue that was beginning to shine through the downier feathers. And he had these BIG cute brown eyes...he was a really cute bird. I held him in Ryan's dim room for a while, waiting for him to collect himself a little more before I released him. Eventually, he did--by hopping out of my hands and flapping crazily at the nearest window. So I caught him (he bit me and then wouldn't let go of my finger with his long claws--ouch), brought him outside, and released him into some bushes. I'm so happy he survived--I was worried about him. :) Mom and Ryan said he surely would've died if we hadn't rescued him from the water trough.

In other news, Cody's back! YAY! Nicole, Cody, and I are hoping to go see Howl's Moving Castle in Roseville tomorrow. :) I spent a lot of my time today on the phone with both of them.

I'd better get back to Health homework... My room is burning up, so I must migrate into the living room where there's air conditioning. -_-;
