The world was supposed to end today...
Sep. 29th, 2004 05:02 pmOf course, like every other "scare" we've had over the world ending, it was a no-show, so my friends and I spent all of lunch joking about it, and thinking up hypothetical ideas about it to expand on.
Well, seeing as the world didn't end, I'm feeling kind of cozy right now. ^^ It's kind of cloudy and pretty out and I have no homework and I get to go on a nice, relaxing field trip tomorrow. Of course, I volunteered to be in charge of the movie on the way back from Tahoe. My original intentions were to bring in Princess Mononoke or Wolf's Rain or something--but of course there was an uproar over that (90% of the people in my class having little experience with anime at all, and therefore running on stereotypes), so I'm forced to bring in some live action movies, too, or be skewered alive. Which would be scary, because I *like* the people in my English class.
A few weeks back, we went to the Japan Town Anime Faire. Of course, like any anime convention, it was a blast. My friend Nicole (in her neko ears instead of her usual Faye costume) and I (in all my Pikachu glory, with a new yellow bowtie as an addition to my costume), rented my poor friend Cody (as Shuichi from Gravitation) out to his adoring fans for $1, in 5-minute shifts. It was quite successful--we made at least $15 to spend on pocky, and made a lot of friends. Hope we see them again at future anime conventions. Anime conventions make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Unfortunately, every light casts a shadow, and all my $1,500 worth of beloved anime CDs were stolen out of Nicole's mom's car. I won't go into more detail... I've already whined about it enough, and it just depresses me to think about it. I feel like I've lost a friend. Oh well, the car ride back was great. Lots of friend-bonding between Nicole and Cody and I, and I had the wind in my face the whole time. (Partly because I couldn't roll my window up; it was the one that was broken into. But that's not the point. I enjoyed it thoroughly.)
Well, looky here. I found Makayla's LiveJournal. Fascinating. I hope you don't mind me reading it, Makayla. I won't divulge anything, and you know that.
And I've had the song from a random (quite beautiful) Gravitation AMV stuck in my head. I'm not sure how I memorized it so fast, but apparently I know the whole song after only hearing it about three times. Pretty good, considering it's a long song, and in Japanese. (Well, I memorize Japanese songs about as fast as English songs by now, but still...)
The dub of Wolf's Rain 27 was fairly good-- I was very impressed by Hubb's sobbing over Cher, which was the scene I was most concerned about. It was almost as good as the original Hubb's sobbing. I'll probably never forgive [adult swim] for cutting out those first two or so minutes of the episode, though. They contained vital information, and really clued you in to the seriousness of the world's condition. No matter what, though, I don't think that any dub could ever match the heaviness of the original. There's just something so heartbreakingly solemn about the performance of the original. It's so...natural...
The ending of Wolf's Rain is absolutely touching, beautiful, sad, and breathtaking no matter how many times you watch it.
Also watched the Pokémon episode Bulbasaur...the Ambassador! for the first time in a while, and was again surprised at it being so cute and touching. I'm thinking of watching Pokémon 6 again tonight, because I'm in this cozy sort of mood that's perfect for either Pokémon 6 or Wolf's Rain. Gravitation and Cowboy Bebop are a little less relaxed, so I think I'll stick to more relaxed anime for tonight. I also need to draw Ayato. I think I'll do that once I feel that I've rambled for a sufficient amount of time.
I feel like a cat today. Not a hyper, orange-eared neko like usual--just a reflective little white cat who watches out the window in a storm.
I get to write a story about Ayato in Creative Writing. What an occasion. ^_^ I already got away with a weird pseudo Wolf's Rain fanfic, and now a RahXephon one. What next? Pokémon? Nah, I don't think I could get away with that unless I was really vague. And anyone who has read my writing would know that I'm not a very vague writer.
One thing that's not all that happy right now is the fact that my computer appears to be so infected with spyware that it's pathetic. Porn popping up everywhere. YUCK. I don't want to watch it with anime characters, and I certainly don't want to watch it with real people. Yuck yuck YUCK.
And for some reason LiveJournal is evading all my attempts at posting comments on Makayla's journal. That's odd...
Hmmm... I think I like writing in my LiveJournal. Mind you, that probably doesn't mean I'm going to start posting in it any more than I already do, but it's nice to have.
