pacificpikachu: (Rainbow Dash Baby Birds)

On a more positive note, I spent quite a while out with the chickens yesterday photographing them. Unfortunately not as many pictures turned out as good as I was hoping, so I'm probably going to do another photo session before I post pictures, but some of the pictures turned out nice.

My sumatra rooster, Royal, who will be two years old in April, is finally getting a tail in! Took him long enough! I was beginning to think that he would never have a tail, or that he needed protein supplements to grow it in. (Sumatras have abnormally complex feathering and long tails, so I've read that sometimes they need a boost to grow feathers in.) I hope that his tail will be nice and long eventually! He already looks so pretty.

Also, I don't know what happened but all of the sudden all of my serama roosters look splendid! I mean, their feather quality isn't the greatest because there's still mud in the coops so everyone is a bit dirty, but their type is incredible. (Type is how the bird holds themselves--essentially their body shape.) I feel proud that they've turned out so beautiful! I'm going to send pictures to my serama friend Ray and show off on SCNA.

Apparently someone posted on SCNA a while back about an ad I had on Craigslist. The birds I posted were young, so they weren't fully developed, and the pictures were awful as far as showing off what they really looked like (something I stated in the ad), so they were saying the birds looked like terrible quality seramas. Ray jumped in and defended me, thankfully, as he knows I have nice birds and that the pictures weren't doing them justice. I did not see the post, he just told me about it at the show. I think I'm going to post the brothers of those so-called "junk" birds and see how the posters feel now! I don't show and my birds are pets (though I breed a little and I occasionally sell some for reasonable prices--mostly because there are just so many people who want seramas, and my hens go broody constantly), but I do hate being told my birds are not good quality based off a few bad photos when they are actually awesome birds. Many of my birds are easily show-quality and I just don't show because it's not my thing for multiple reasons.

Sometimes show breeders can be really snobbish, ha. I've learned this multiple times, so I don't get all that upset if people get all overly critical and ridiculous. I've seen too much drama over these things and I refuse to get embroiled in that judgmental mindset. I will show off how nice my birds are, just because I'm proud of them.

Vienna, one of my bantam silver phoenix, was looking droopy so I brought her in the house. Hopefully she'll pull through with some meds! I guess we'll see, I'll assess her better this evening. Fiona, who is in the garage for her puffy face, is getting better and better. She just has one bump left under her eye, which I may need to remove like I did Rocket's (gross but kind of awesome to do because I'm weird).

I was up until past 4 AM, orz. Partly because I was bad and took a nap from 7 PM until 10 PM or so, though. I was busily making music playlists and reading fanfiction and starting to go through my CD-Rs and DVD-Rs. I'm a bit tired, but not too bad. At least I was sort of productive, haha. The roosters were starting to crow as I was going to bed.

That's all for now, back to work!
