Apr. 24th, 2011 09:59 pmHappy Easter, to those who celebrate it! I semi-do in a secular kind of way, when I feel like it. Which was not today. I read things on the internet instead.
I took in an adorable mallard duckling a few days ago that had been abandoned by his mother. He seemed to be eating and doing well, but I did notice some odd behavior yesterday. Last night he was bathing in his water, and then I tucked him into his towel by the heating pad so he wouldn't get cold from being wet. This morning I found him suddenly dead. :( Mother animals know best, this isn't the first time I've heard of a mother rejecting her young only for the baby to die soon after. Still, I had been optimistic about the duckling's chances so it's a bit disappointing. Well, at least he died somewhere warm and quiet.
I did get a happier Easter surprise, though! Last night I went to candle some eggs under my serama hen Aztec. Most were earlier in development, but to my surprise some of the eggs peeped when I picked them up! So I brought her and those three eggs in the garage so she could hatch them in peace. So now there are three adorable baby seramas! Haha, what perfect timing! I've always wanted to hatch some chicks on Easter, but Aztec did it for me.
I've been sort of restless today. I can't quite figure out what to do with myself. Oh well. Off to go do my daily Dreamworld visit. (And by that I mean Pokémon Dreamworld, not sleep.)
