pacificpikachu: (Pikachu -- Star)
I had a dream this morning about being on a large ship and going somewhere where there were many whales. There was a truly massive blue whale, a few humpback whales, minke whales, and a dall's porpoise, among others. The whales were so close you could touch them and sometimes I was not on a boat observing them, but in the water with them. It was as if, visually I could understand how huge they were, but unlike in some other whale dreams I've had I could not seem to feel how powerful an animal they are, so it was not scary or intimidating being close to them. At one point I got scared because I saw the black and white creature coming toward me and thought it was an orca (and someone yelled that it was), but I soon realized it was a dall's porpoise and was no longer afraid. There was something with a sea lion as well, and I kept trying to find my camera to take pictures of these incredible sights.

I wish it had been real! Not that it was realistic, but I've only had one halfway decent spotting of a wild whale (I have seen many wild dolphins, though) and I want to see wild whales up close someday, and orcas. I find whales absolutely incredible animals.

Today was a bad day for wildlife rehab! Kelly and Mark came to pick up this poor baby jackrabbit who was in terrible shape. They decided to put him down (he was either aspirated or had a punctured lung, likely had a spinal issue, and was bleeding out of the eyes and mouth) and put him in the euthanasia chamber, but it ended up taking about fifteen minutes and multiple uses of the chamber for the poor little one to actually die. We put animals down in there all the time, and it's very unusual for one to survive the gassing. I think this time it was because the little one's respiration was so depressed because he was on his way out already. Thankfully I highly doubt the bunny suffered--I don't think he was conscious--but it was certainly a bit upsetting for us.

I had a juvenile robin as well and ended up putting him down as well. He had a bad compound fracture of the humerus, and both compound fractures and humerus fractures are each automatic euthanasia criteria by themselves, much less together. Poor bird was in a lot of pain, I was glad to be able to end the suffering.

We did get some baby field mice taken care of, though, and there was a healthy young scrub jay and iffy house finch who both went to rehabbers. Poor Linda had two herons she needed to put down, too, though, so there was a lot of euthanasia going on today.

I've been so tired lately I decided to take an Adderall in the morning to see if it helped. It did, immensely, along with drinking an energy drink. I was actually a little above my usual energy level, which was nice for once! It made work enjoyable, as it normally is, instead of feeling droopy and exhausted.

I hate taking psych drugs and only take the Adderall if I really need it, but I am glad I took it today because this is the first day of several that I've felt like I'm actually awake.

I'm trying to find more chickens to rescue with work. We're down to less than fifty chickens from over six hundred, and we still have plenty of people wanting to adopt! (Plus, we have the capacity to help chickens, so why wouldn't we?) I've been calling farms and I'm hoping to get a lead on a bunch of chickens we can save from slaughter soon.

Going to Tahoe for a family reunion on Friday! I'm excited, I like my family reunions. Yeah, I have to self-censor around my religious relatives, but nonetheless I love my relatives and actually enjoy their company. Especially my cousins!

I liked that meme and would be interested in seeing what everyone else gets!
