pacificpikachu: (Honey -- Corgi Pride)
Went and got the new guinea pig today! And this time, she is truly and honestly female! She is so pretty--this very vivid black and orange with a narrow white strip down her nose. :D She hadn't seen another guinea pig in over a year so I wasn't sure how she would react when I introduced her to Hawkeye, but it seemed like she and Hawkeye instantly bonded and starting running around together, grooming each other, and being adorable. They've been running around the new spacious, lovely cage and seem to be in great spirits. Makes me really happy. ^^

As for Mr. Guinea Pig, I posted him on Craigslist tonight to see what kinds of interest I'd get, and a woman from Sacramento who runs a guinea pig rescue said she wants to take him for her personal herd (as in, she is going to keep him) because she has a male who needs a cagemate. Going to talk to her tomorrow and see when a good day to bring him down to Sacramento would be. Now THAT is exactly the kind of home I would dream of for him. Experienced guinea pig owner, obviously compassionate because she runs a rescue, with a cagemate, and not anywhere where he'll be the target of small children playing with him like a toy or subject to being rehomed again. I'm really happy. I won't have to feel guilty at all bringing him to this home.

Also posted our chicken house that we're no longer using, and got three e-mails about it already. Sounds like it should be gone soon with all this interest, which is nice because we have no use for a big ol' second chicken house that's just taking up space and gathering cobwebs in the corner of the property.

It's strange because I'm in a good mood today, but I also feel sort of drained of energy and have a general physical heavy feeling for no apparent reason. As though I'm sleep-deprived or did too much, but neither is the case. I don't want to do much of anything, so aside from today's Davis trip and setting up the new guinea pig cage (as well as cleaning out the older one for Mr. Guinea Pig), all I've been doing pretty much is reading The Lovely Bones. I've been curious about reading it for a while, so I got it from a thrift store for $1. It's been an enjoyable read so far. Not spectacular, not the most beautiful or meaningful or well-written piece of literature I've ever read, but enjoyable.

Yesterday I went to the Draft Horse Classic with Mom and her friend Mary Anne. This was a nice time, though we didn't get to see much in the way of the horses because most of the time the barns were closed off to the public for security. :/ It really bothers me how our culture seems to get more and more obsessively protective of people and fearful of lawsuits. Can't one just expect and realize that being around very large animals is potentially risky just by its very nature? I don't know, it bugs me. I've always loved walking around and seeing all the different breeds of draft horses with their heads sticking out of their stalls, petting their velvety noses, and taking pictures of them. It's unfortunate that a few freak accidents over the years would take away that nice freedom of getting to wander around the barns and see the horses close up.

Anyway, there was a bunch of corgi merchandise there at the different vendor's booths! I got a soft little corgi plush and yearned for three others, and we also got this beautiful corgi mat to put the dog water bowl on. The nice thing was that the booth we bought these from was supporting the United Pegasus Foundation, which is a horse rescue group, so that made the purchases doubly awesome. There was also some cute corgi signs, hats, and other things, but it's not like we have the money to buy every corgi item we come across unfortunately for my collector-minded self.

We also looked at the horse art, got some food and Hawaiian ice, and just wandered around for a while.

On an entirely different/random note, I finally got to uploading new userpics! I love uploading new userpics. XD I still left a few spots free in case something comes up that I want to icon or I find an amazing icon I can't help but add, though.

That's all for now, as my energy continues to wane. Back to reading~
