Mar. 23rd, 2009 01:00 amI've been busy the last few days!
Yesterday I went to the Wildlife Rehab Annual Training. Er, half of it, rather, as I had to leave early to head down to Davis to meet doggies. But during the training, I got to meet our new education bird--a lovely Peregrine Falcon named Gaia. She's so beautiful! Chester the Great-Horned Owl and Oliver the (adorable) Western Screech Owl were also there. :D There was a wonderful presentation by the Hungry Owl Project, which is a great project relating to placing owl boxes on properties as a method of pest extermination instead of anything unnatural, and they also work to return baby raptors that have fallen out of their nests back into them. I missed most of the other events, but there were some great videos as well. :D
Then Mom, Ryan, and I went down to Davis. The Yolo SPCA event in front of Petco was chaos--volunteers and dogs EVERYWHERE and people rushing around and just...craziness. I did find Trisha and Sammy, though, and get to meet them! Matilda actually had a bit of event (ran away and was caught, but needed to calm down) so she wasn't there. Trisha was adorable, but also too alpha for Hana we think, based off what her foster parent said. Sammy was really really cute and shy, but I spent a good hour at least walking him around/assessing him. I liked him and my family did too, and we were thinking about maybe taking him for a trial at the end of the week, but the group kind of...started lecturing us and playing up his age and the behaviors that go with it and that put us off a bit. Ah, it's hard to describe exactly. Anyway, in short we're still considering Sammy--he's not out of the picture--but we're continuing to look. Sammy had a great energy and I felt like, given some time and training and structure, he could be an amazing dog, but we also want to see what else shows up.
Mom actually kind of fell in love with this chihuahua mix randomly (?!), and granted he was a cute sweet little thing, but for quite a few reasons I want to rescue a dog (preferably a border collie or border collie mix) that actually needs training and isn't a dog that would instantly get adopted by just about anyone like this chihuahua mix. I want to help a dog that needs a second chance badly--not one who is shoo-in for some family with young children to just adopt a day after they come in. And really, even the SPCA agreed that the little guy is that kind of dog.
I have a feeling that when the right dog shows up, we'll know it and it'll just work out. That happened to
toggy, and I think it'll happen to us. Granted, it's still possible that Sammy is that dog, but I think time and continuing to look around will tell. :)
Today
scorpio_alice and I headed down to Yuba City. TODAY WAS...JAHFDJSAHFAKJ GORGEOUSSSS. Seriously, it looked like a Miyazaki movie. Bright blue sky, big white puffy clouds, extremely vivid green and flowers everywhere. Ahhh, it was so amazing. Words can't do it justice. Hell, I considered taking pictures but I know that wouldn't have done it justice either. *____* We couldn't stop being in awe over how incredible it was.
Went to the mall and picked up my Platinum (YAYYYYYY), wandered around the mall and got some candy, and then we arbitrarily headed to Graylodge. This was definitely the right decision, though, because the drive there was AMAZING, and it was LAKSJDAK SO PRETTY THERE I can't even begin to tell you. Just...Miyazaki movie is the only way I can put it. It was magical or something. We walked around the reserve for a long time and talked about what was going to happen to us assuming we were in a Miyazaki movie. For quite a while we stood up on the observatory because the wind felt so good, and we were watching the turkey vultures (who became a new in-joke. Don't ask.) who were everywhere riding the drafts.
After we had done an adequate amount of jaw-dropping and enjoying the day, we headed back to Yuba City and drove around looking for Hometown Buffet. With the help of a gas station attendant we finally found it and ate lots there while making a list of anime we need to marathon when
scorpio_alice gets her new TV. Speaking of that TV, we also went on a hunt for Best Buy, but sadly failed. From there we dropped by my house and then went to her place and watched hilarious/awesome videos on StumbleUpon.
This one in particular impressed us:
I don't know if that's the best Canon Rock video out there because now I'm finding quite a few more, but regardless it's awesome. :D
Now...I'm trying to debate whether to start Platinum right now, at nearly 2 AM, and risk being up all night, or wait until the morning, which may be a monumental task. So excited, though!
( List of things I MUST do tomorrow )
