pacificpikachu: (Dreaming)
I've been watching anime today. :D

I finally started Toshokan Sensou, as when it was first subbed I was too busy to watch anything. It's officially another series on my "Definitely Watching It" list. I really like the character designs, how it's animated, and the characters. I especially like the main character--she's so...flawed. I mean, just in a superficial way so far, but still--I like how she frequently makes bad decisions and takes things too personally and freaks out over everything. She's very likable to me. The plot is a little iffy to me (mostly because I've read so many OMG CENSORSHIP books in my lifetime that it's gotten a little old, and I don't usually care for military-centered stories), but regardless of this it's been a lot of fun so far, so I'm definitely going to watch the rest of it. I don't actually dislike the plot, I more just dislike the *idea* of the plot. I like the OP and ED animation (and the songs are fairly catchy, too).

I also finished Ghost Hound )

I was going to start Kaiba, but I didn't particularly feel like it after watching the Ghost Hound ending. I'll maybe watch it tomorrow, we'll see. :)

I also created a sales journal! Because I definitely spent outside my limits today. *Cough* [livejournal.com profile] surfinpikasales. It's got mostly Pokémon stuff, but it's got some Naruto/Gankutsuou/Fullmetal Alchemist doujinshi and a few DVDs and some other stuff. Feel free to root around in there if it pleases you. XD

I keep feeling like I should go do something else, but it is 12:20 AM. Perhaps I should just go to sleep. Or doodle on Tegaki. That would work, too.

Also, I'm sorry if I haven't been replying to comments and entries very well lately. I've been overwhelmingly busy, and next week is finals so I'm all stressed out. I'm trying to get back to you guys, but don't be shocked if it takes me a few days to write comments to your entries and reply to your comments.

Earthlings

I'm really hoping everyone doesn't just skip over this post.

I feel gloomy to begin with (I suspect PMS), so I want to write an entry about something I've been meaning to write about for a while. I would really appreciate it if you guys would read this, even if you don't think of yourself as much of an animal person.

[livejournal.com profile] faoiltiamatani linked me to a documentary called Earthlings almost two weeks ago. I have hardly had the heart to bring it up since then. Now, for the record, I've watched a number of horrific, stomach-churning videos. I watch Animal Cops fairly often, and harsh documentaries and I'm aware of what goes on in slaughterhouses and the like. I am not someone who cries easily or is unaccustomed to death. (Wildlife rehabber, remember? And pre-vet?) I love animals, but I consider myself mostly a strong person emotionally.

Nothing I have ever seen prepared me for this documentary. In fact, I don't think I've ever been so affected by something on a screen. I sobbed through nearly the whole thing (sometimes so hard that I had to pause it for minutes at a time), felt physically ill on and off for the entire day after watching it, and I had to look away from the screen too many times to count. It is unspeakably horrifying. I am not exaggerating or being overly sensitive. It is that horrible. I don't know if I can ever bring myself to watch it again.

That said, I think it is a very important documentary. Not just for animal rights people, but for everyone who has ever cared even slightly about an animal. We urgently need to do something. And, to be honest, I'm not sure what I can do by myself (other than all the animal charity work I do already and the fact that I'm going into the veterinary field). So, I'm passing the video on and hoping it moves other people enough that they pass it on, because together we CAN do something important. I'm sure of it.

I am not trying to get you to swear off meat. I am not trying to get you to become a vegan, or free your pets, become an extreme animal rights protester, or anything like that. I do not intend to force my beliefs on you. I just want you to see it so you know. What you do with this information is entirely up to you. Want to ignore it and pretend you never saw it? Go ahead. However, as a general rule, the more informed we are, the more we can do to change things--and this needs to be changed. Something needs to happen. Something needs to happen as soon as possible because this suffering is going on ALL of the time--every second--and not pausing.

PLEASE, if you care at all, watch this documentary. Even if you don't think you care, watch this documentary. If even a third of you decide to watch it and pass it on to a few of your friends and they pass it on, we can make an impact.
