Today was so filled with pointlessness. >__> (Though it was nice pointlessness. I'm not complaining, exactly!)

I was up until about 2 AM last night due to one of my Ebay auctions that I really, really wanted to win. Thankfully, despite a bid war at the end, I did win it at the last moment. It's a Dragonite UFO plush (it's absolutely adorable, rare, and highly sought after), and I saw one go for $88 today. I got mine for $31 because the seller listed it as "Charzard." Not even "Charizard." "Charzard." Oh, Ebay sellers amuse me sometimes. XD I lost my other two auctions, though. Both of them went too high and I couldn't justify spending that much to myself. So, I just let them go. I'm really really happy I won that Dragonite, though. Seriously, look at how cute he is! )

He's even more adorable when you can see his little wings and tail. ♥ (The Pikachu is pretty darn adorable, too!)

I woke up at 6 AM reluctantly and carpooled with KK and Ari like usual. Between arriving and the start of class, I watched the first two episodes of Kurenai and Macross Frontier. (I'll write my impressions on them at the end of this entry. I need to start a number of other spring anime!)

So, I hurried off to Animal Science, only to discover it had been canceled. I returned to the cafeteria and messed around on my laptop for a while, and then explored the Earth Day celebrations going on around campus. I got a nice free water bottle and some other miscellaneous freebies. When I got bored of that, I went to the computer lab (because I didn't buy the student sticker thing, I can't connect to the wireless on my laptop), discovered Calculus had also been canceled. Because I could think of nothing better to do, I spent several hours reading about VHEMT (Voluntary Human Extinction Movement--I'm a passionate supporter/member of this movement, as shocking as this may be to some people).

So, yeah. I got up at 6 AM and went all the way down to Rocklin, which is an hour away, for no classes and therefore no reason. .__.; At least I got some time to watch a little anime without getting distracted, though. I wish I had gotten to sleep in, though. Mom picked me up at 2 PM in Auburn.

Okay, short impressions of Macross Frontier and Kurenai, based off of the first two episodes. (Keep in mind I was operating off of three or four hours of sleep when I watched these AND now that I'm trying to review them. So these impressions may be strange, nonsensical, overly critical, whatever.)

Kurenai - Hee, the opening is very stylish and cute. The series itself is okay. Not amazing, but it's got beautiful background art and I rather like the style the characters are drawn in. They seem to be a little off-model every now and then, though, and some of their movements struck me as a bit odd. Overall, very nice animation, though. The storyline... Hmmm. I think the bonding stuff between Shintaro and Murasaki is adorable, and some of it was nicely told, but there were other parts that felt forced to me. I'm not sure how I feel about Shintaro's "power"--it just doesn't seem to fit the general mood of the series to me, as weird as that sounds. The mood or storytelling or something seems inconsistent--I can't put my finger on what exactly it is. But it's an enjoyable enough series so far, and I'm going to keep watching it unless it just drivels off into monotony or something.

I don't think I'm far enough in it to give it a fair assessment--I feel like it's one of those series that could turn out being good and heartwarming and stand out, or it could just end up mediocre or worse. It could easily go either way.

Macross Frontier - I found this more exciting than Kurenai, which is unfair for me to say because they're utterly different types of series. XD I don't really care for the character designs (other than Ranka, who is very stereotypical anime girl, but I like her design anyway for some reason. I think it's the silly hair), and I thought there was too much focus on the CG and robots and such and not enough focus on interesting or consistent character animation. Overall, though, the animation is quite pretty. I'm just totally nitpicking, haha. Anyway, I haven't particularly formed an opinion on the plot, but it did keep me rather entertained the whole time I watched it. It was relatively fast-paced and had some cool scenes, though nothing was striking enough to make a huge impression on me.

Naturally, the highlight of it for me was the music. Yoko Kanno! ♥ ♥ ♥ The background music in episode one didn't stand out particularly, but it was superb in episode two, and I dig the J-pop songs (Maaya's opening and ending theme, and Sheryl's concert and so on). There's something about Yoko Kanno + J-pop that I adore (then again, I ALWAYS adore Yoko Kanno, so this shouldn't be a surprise). Even if what she writes is basically a typical-sounding J-pop song, they tend to have these strong melodies that make them super memorable. I'm already humming songs from this series, and I've only heard them once!

To be honest, I'm having trouble discerning how much of Macross Frontier was actually really good and how much of it was me fangasming over the music to the extent where everything seemed better than it actually was. XD Regardless, it's an interesting series so far, and I do intend to watch all of it.

Anyone else care to share your opinions on either series? Feel free to argue either way on them--my opinions are a little conflicted at this point, and I'm curious what everyones' thoughts are on them. 8D

I really, really need sleep now. Sooooooo tired.
