Okay, seeing as I couldn't update about yesterday, well, yesterday, I'll do it now. Yesterday was a nice day. Very relaxing and fulfilling and such, with only one semi-traumatic incident. It was also kind of a weird mix of things. XD; There's not a lot to write, but I liked yesterday, so I'll write about it anyway.

I woke up and went online like I usually do, printed some Haruhi pictures to use as a reference for drawing, attempted to burn DVDs of AMVs yet again to no avail, worked on downloading AIR (I blame an AMV and an overwhelming amount of good reviews for my sudden desire to see it), read about serial killers (actually something I do on a regular basis, believe it or not. I'm a tad on the morbid side...), and other stuff.

Meanwhile, I fed the robins and jay like usual, every forty-five minutes.

I promised myself I'd do some drawing, but it took me a while to finish everything else I was doing, find some good reference pictures, and actually start. It turned out being a lot of fun, though. I did my first drawing of Haruhi, and truth be told something about it looks a little un-Haruhi-esque, but I did discover how to use my Neopiko markers effectively and actually finished the picture. So, two firsts: first real experience with drawing Haruhi (albeit not looking totally like herself) and using my markers. I kept messing up with the white ink, though. XD;; That's okay--I discovered after smearing it a little that you can just wait for it to dry and then scratch some of it off with your fingernails. Anyway, I'm really glad I bought the markers because they create a nice, professional look, and that's what I've been looking for for a long time. They take me almost as long to use as colored pencils, though. x.x Which is a loooong time.

Dad and I were going to watch Crash after dinner, but halfway through the bite of a tortellini, Becky called me to tell me someone in Alta Sierra had an injured robin. So, I finished up my dinner and called the girl who had the bird back. She volunteered to drive it to me. I went outside and waited for her for a while. She actually initially drove right past me because I guess I don't look enough like a wildlife rehabber. Of course, she was about the same age as me and she probably wasn't expecting someone her age. XD;; Anyway, she gave me the bird, which she believed had a broken leg.

I carried the bird up to our apartment and picked it up to examine it under a light in the kitchen. I did a few tests with its legs and determined they were both fine, but the bird was alternating between flipping out and lying still. My first thought was that the bird probably had neurological damage, though I didn't rule out spine damange as a cause. Because the girl had said she found the bird on the side of the road, the obvious probable cause of whatever is wrong with him was that he was hit by a car. I located a big, deep, ugly wound on his side, and decided to call Jacqui to see what I could do for him before putting him to bed. I cleaned out his wound with nolvasan, and then put some silvadine on it to help the healing. Jacqui said he probably has a bruised spine, and he has about a 50/50 chance. I prepared a cage for him immediately and made a paper towel U to try to keep him immobilized. The immobilization didn't work, though, because when I checked on him a couple minutes afterwards he had wriggled out and was sitting on the ground of the cage.

Well, he made it through the night, so that's been his first major hurdle. The next tasks? Get him to eat and drink, and figure out what the best thing to do for him is. He's walking a little better today, but by "a little better" I mean he walks two or three awkward steps and then falls over. It's really sad seeing a bird with a spinal injury, because it just seems so helpless and every time I look at him I imagine how much pain he's in. I try not to touch him much because a) he hates it and bites me every time, and b) I'm worried I'll do further damage. His tail is still off to the side, though, and really his whole body is moving and looking completely asymmetrical. He falls over all the time, and he's pretty pathetic looking, but he still might make it.

Anyway, after I put him to bed and gave my baby robin some antibiotics, Dad and I actually did end up watching Crash. No opinion needed, because I've already seen it, and if I see it again, what do you think I thought? Dad really liked it a lot, too, and even said it was "up there" (meaning one of the better movies he's seen). This morning I burned it, so now I can watch it any time. >D

Um...I think that's all for now. Bah, I'm going back to reading about serial killers.

Dear self,

I know you like forensics. I know you're a tad morbid.

...But you know, isn't spending like, six (seven? EIGHT?) hours straight reading the most disturbing murder cases you can find on CrimeLibrary.com just a tad...y'know...weird? Creepy? Potentially psychopathic? NOT RIGHT?

Just saying. O_o;

A little weirded-out,

Yourself
