I keep updating my LiveJournal too late at night to really write in depth about anything or babble excessively. Ah well. Today had its ups and downs.

I woke up at 7 AM, like usual, after ignoring the blackbirds cackling for a half hour (realize, the blackbirds are about...one inch from my bed. Like, the cage is almost literally up against my bed because that's the only place it'll fit). I staggered out of bed, prepared the food for everyone, and checked on all the birds. Amusingly enough, when I woke up the wren had apparently escaped his cage, but instead of causing me huge amounts of stress by hopping somewhere difficult to find, he was sitting on top of the cage with his mouth wide open. It was adorable. XD;;

I was also quite happy to discover the grosbeak was still alive and improving in condition. He's been opening his eyes a little more, gaping sometimes, and making some small noises. He made it through today, so I assume he's probably going to make it in the long run. Yay for antibiotics! I must have administered them just in the nick of time.

After a while of feeding birds and burning CDs, we needed to take off to Cindy's to watch the chickadee release. I chopped up some extra food for all the birds who are starting to self-feed so they could help themselves while I was gone, and brought the grosbeak along with me in a basket.

We went to an appointment for my Mom at the dermatologist, which took a total of about five minutes. I embarrassed myself by spilling Exact all over the neighboring chair in the waiting room. I cleaned it up, but it struck me as incredibly stupid. For some reason, over the last few days, I have spilled SO MANY THINGS you have no idea. Like...a spill an hour. I can't figure it out for the life of me. Why?!

On the way to Cindy's, we dropped by a bakery for breakfast. I got a snickerdoodle and a coconut macaroon (healthy breakfast, I know XD), and we continued on our way.

The bird release was overall very nice, even if there were a few not-so-good parts. It took about an hour or so for everyone to leave the flight cage, but it was cool because one of my chickadees flew out of the cage right past me. Jacqui, Chip, Janey, Patty, Mom, Ryan, some other people, and I sat around by the flight cage drinking tea and telling bird stories, and I got to meet Janey's hilarious batch of pinky woodpeckers. OMG they're wonderfully strange! They're seriously just like miniature pterodactyls. I'm not even joking. They ARE.

However, a bird got out who was not supposed to (though Chip ran and caught her right away, thus avoiding tragedy), and also one of the nuthatches panicked and ran into a stick, rendering it stunned and needing some recovery time before release. :(

Jacqui and Chip gave me some more supplies and informed me about some cool-sounding cages I'm getting (including a stackable three-cage thingy) and Janey gave me some eye drops in case my male house finch does have conjunctivitis.

From there, I got all worried about my birds at home (this was their first time being alone for more than an hour), but Mom absolutely insisted on going to do chores. For hours. ;_;

Turns out my fears were justified--I got home and was confused by the lack of enthusiastic greeting from the wren. Initially I thought he got out, but after a little searching I discovered he was curled up in the dried grass near the kleenex hiding box, looking awful. He was just curled up, his feet weren't working, eyes were closed, all stiff. I totally panicked and felt so, so, SO bad about it (I had assumed he was eating and drinking on his own like the others, but apparently he wasn't) and quickly discovered he was dehydrated. I started dripping water into his mouth immediately, and he recovered fully about an hour later, but it was scary. Really scary. I absolutely love that little guy, so if he had died because of my ignorance I would have been really upset. I'm so happy he's okay. ;_; For now I think he and the grosbeak are going to be roommates, which'll bring him back to eating every 30-40 minutes instead of every hour. I'll also have to bring him to my doctor's appointment tomorrow. I think everyone else should be okay while I'm gone, but I'm going to minimize my outings.

After that ordeal, I essentially went back to normal business until Mom left for work and I put the birds to bed, and then I popped in Gankutsuou Vol. 5.

Gankutsuou spoilers for 17-20 )

Off to bed now. *Waves*
