I slept pretty well last night, except that I was semi-awake the whole night listening for the killdeer. He didn't make a peep until 6 AM, though, and then he started peeping rather loudly, so I jumped on to the computer, downloaded as many killdeer sounds as I could find, and created a playlist of them that was an hour and a half long. He was much quieter and happier when I played those (only peeping occasionally), so that allowed me to nap lightly for an hour or two. Of course, I had killdeer sounds preventing me from falling fully asleep, but it wasn't bad at all. Meanwhile, I had a terrible, very vivid dream in which my rooster was ripped to pieces, though. :/

When I did totally wake up, I started freaking out about the killdeer again. Jacqui called at about 8 AM and we discussed a plan of action, which consisted of trying to find some killdeer to take him in and figuring out a Plan B if that failed. I took a mirror out of Mom's purse to try to calm him, and Jacqui called back again to say that Cheri takes in waterfowl and has raised killdeer successfully before, so she became Plan B. Just out of curiosity, I called her to see if it was okay if she'd take him in if we couldn't get a family for him. She basically said that she wasn't sure any other killdeer would take him in, so she volunteered to take him. By 10 AM, she came and picked him up, and that's that. ^_^ It was taking a big burden off knowing he's going somewhere where he'll be properly cared for and has a much better shot at living. He also gets to keep a lonely baby wood duck company.

If you're curious what a killdeer looks like, here are some pictures (not mine--just googled):

Baby (this is what the one I had looked like): http://www.shawnolson.net/media/1_Shawn_killdeer_baby4.jpg

From there, I've basically just been doing animal chores all day. I cleaned out the chicken shed, fed and watered everyone, put the guinea pigs out, played with White Weeter because he doesn't get to go out with the girls and babies, and...that's pretty much it.

I was going to get those towhees and that "flycatcher" (which was actually a nuthatch, incidentally), but Janey fell in love with the Towhees and doesn't want to give them up. XD;; And the "flycatcher"/nuthatch died. So, now I'm pretty much just waiting for anything to come in so I can snatch it up to raise. Tomorrow I'm going with Jacqui down to Becky's for a cage screening party, where I will pick up some new cages and possibly some chickadees if nothing comes in today and Becky isn't too attached. So~ yeah. If anyone is bored and would like to come along to Yuba City to screen and look at birds with us, feel free to ask! It would be nice to have a friend or two along. :) We'll be leaving a little before 2 PM, so you don't need to wake up early.
