Baby bird #2!
May. 6th, 2006 06:26 pmAh, today was so much fun! At around 10:45 AM today, Joy picked me up to go get the second scrub jay baby. On the way, we went by Jacqui's house and picked her up, and then we were on our way!
We had a really fun ride down there--we talked a lot about religion, spirituality, paranormal experiences, birds (of course), turning points in people's lives, and other such things. Jacqui is a definite Christian, but she's a really, really cool one, so it was awesome to hear her viewpoints on the religion and how corrupt it has become, and the solid reasons as to why she believes in it. Pretty cool stuff. It made for some great conversations.
So, we got to Becky's house and picked the bird up, and also took some time to say hello to her big, beautiful wolf hybrid dogs and her doves. The poor new baby has been through so much already! He and his brother fell out of a tall oak tree, and by the time anyone found them, they were both seriously dehydrated and starving. In fact, they were on the verge of death by the time Becky got them. Well, she managed to nurse them both back to relative health, but then on Wednesday night the sibling died. The baby isn't nearly as well and active as my other one (who is a downright rascal at this point XD;;) but I think he'll probably make it. One of his feet is a little messed-up, so I have to do a little physical therapy with him, and he needs some antibiotics twice a day, though.
After that, we stopped by Starbucks and Jacqui treated Joy and I to some drinks. We sat outside for a little while and had our drinks (the birds were in the car in the shade) before we continued on our journey. On the way back, we stopped at the raptor center, Mike gave the new baby a thorough check-up, and looked at some birds of prey. Unfortunately, there was an adorable baby turkey with internal damage and a hawk who had been shot sixteen times with a pellet gun who both would have to be put down. T_T We also looked at some baby great horned owls, several lovely hawks, and we even got to see several prey birds really, really close. :D It was awesome.
We stopped briefly at a thrift store in Penn Valley just for the fun of it and to look for bird supplies, Jacqui bought me a stuffed eagle (because it was so cute!) for $1.25, and we would have gotten bird stuff but the store closed about five minutes after we went in there. x.x
Then we dropped Jacqui off at her house, and Joy dropped me off at my house on the way up to her own. Anyway, it was lots of fun. :D
I need to go give the scrub jay b some antibiotics and food now.
AUGH--I really need to work on my AMV, provided I have the energy. x.x
