*Bites LiveJournal*
Jan. 3rd, 2005 04:25 pmGrrr. I just made a huge post and LiveJournal ate it. So I'll write it again, more succinctly this time.
It's exhausting going back to school after a two-week vacation. -_-;;
Anyway, we went shopping in Roseville [again] yesterday. I ate loads of free samples at Costco (and even got a free spork out of the deal :p), and then we swung by Best Buy. I picked up Wolf's Rain Vol. 5 (though I don't have Vol. 4 yet. This is okay, however, because a) I've already seen the series a thousand times and b) Vol. 4 is the recaps anyway. I'm going to buy it, but I haven't found it yet.) Also, I noticed Best Buy was having a $10 off sale on certain DVDs. One of these DVDs was Paranoia Agent Vol. 1--a series I've been wanting to buy for some time. So, I picked that up, too (for $9.99 how could I resist?).
Now I'm extremely happy I bought it--it's even better than I remembered (I saw the first episode at an anime convention a while ago). It's very kinetic, subtly insightful about the world today, and deeply psychological. My type of show. I also like Satoshi Kon's use of main character relays. It makes the story move along faster and gives the viewers a different perspective every episode. What a nifty series.
I didn't sleep well last night. During the vacation, I'd been going to bed at relatively late hours, so falling asleep was a virtual impossibility. I got in bed at 10 PM (after doing a few awful wolf-sketches), but all I could do was toss and turn. It didn't help that Dad and his friend Jim (who stayed at our house for the night because he and Dad were going to work on security camera things today) were up late talking loudly about the Grateful Dead and playing guitar. -_-; I kept finding weird excuses to turn my light on and get out of bed-- "Hmmm, I wonder where my Gameboy went?" "I think I should read the preface to this entirely random book again." "Should I bring my RahXephon Official Illustration Collection to school tomorrow?"
I didn't find the Gameboy, I did read the preface, and I determined that I was too paranoid to bring the RahXephon artbook to school.
Anyway, I suppose I fell asleep eventually, because the next thing that happened was Dad going "Oh great! Kristin, time to get up!" at 7:20 AM. For reference, my school starts at 7:35 AM. I barely had time to grab my lunch, and brush my teeth and hair before we were off.
I did make it to school on time, but I remembered while I was in the car that my Creative Writing class (first period) moved from G-wing to E-wing. This actually worked out all right in the end, though, because E-wing is right next to the choir room, which is where Dad normally drops me off anyway.
During Creative Writing, we did very little other than eat fudge that someone brought in for us (yum!), and listen to Mrs. McDaniel explain our next writing prompt. I don't like it. We have to write about an important woman in our lives. >.< Ick. Not only is it non-fiction, it's also warm and mushy and can't involve psychological/physical torment and/or character deaths. Rae tried futilely to get me to agree that some random guys on her binder were hot (they weren't even anime characters! Or J-rockers! *Gasp*), which naturally I didn't, and that was that.
Second period, US History, we mainly read from our books. Oh, but there's one other thing I must mention. Mr. Ostrom has the CREEPIEST picture in the front of his room on his podium (is that how you spell that? I've never written about podiums before...). It's a photograph of a fat man who looks like Santa wearing nothing but a Santa hat (*NOTHING*) and lying belly-down. *Shudders* EWWW. EWWW EWWW EWWW. It shows everything in disgusting detail except his...front parts *cough*, which are hidden by the fact that he's lying belly-down. EWWW. Have I mentioned EWWW yet? I don't suppose it's going to be coming down any time soon, either, because all the teachers who come into Mr. Ostrom's room have a good sense of humor. (Read: They're all sadistic.)
Third period was Anatomy, and it was another one of my three classes that moved. This time, it was from D-wing to the Science Lecture Hall. Before class started, Mr. Larsen read us "The Rules of Holiday Eating" and a bunch of quotes on dogs. Ironically, just when he started reading the quotes on dogs, a dog somewhere on campus started barking. After that, we took notes on muscles. You could tell Erin and I were sleep deprived by how amused we were by the word 'fascicles.'
Yes, fascicles.
We said it with a lisp, tried out different ways of pronouncing it, said it in different voices, and laughed so hard we cried.
In case you haven't noticed, we're not quite what one could call sane.
Fourth period was also somewhat amusing. Rory and I sold food and the such, and once that was done with, we discovered-- JOY --an entire box of [clean] toilet plungers! You have no idea how much fun toilet plungers are. We used them as weapons, we decorated the entire Student Store's walls with them (there were about twenty of them, if not more), we used them to open drawers and cabinets with their suction.
Rory threw one up in the air and it landed suction-side down on the floor. When he went to retrieve it, the suction was so strong that it sucked one of the tiles off of the floor. XD XD XD We spent the rest of the period trying to hide the fact that we took the floor apart with the toilet plungers.
Oh, and we took mid-school-year inventory of the Student Store. Can you imagine how much fun it is to count Nevada Union bumper stickers for a half-hour? */False enthusiasm*
Lunch was fairly uneventful. Nicole, Cody, and I hung around the middle room and Nicole told us about exactly how boring her Christmas vacation was at her Dad's in Oakdale, and Erik, for some bizarre reason, was trying to suck on my hair. O_o;; Jared did something amusing and strange, but I can't remember for the life of me what it was.
Before Trig, Nicole spent the passing period trying to get Trevor and Ricky to kiss. XD This is a cause I would normally have fully supported, but I insisted we should wait 'til we have a camera. They refused anyway. We'll force Ricky to keep his promise of Yaoi-ing for fangirls at some point.
Trig was like Trig always is.
My English class moved, also (from G-wing to E-wing), so this caused me some brief confusion. I followed a few of my classmates, though, and therefore was able to find our new English classroom okay. The new English classroom is small and cramped and un-colorful. We haven't gotten to decorate it yet, so it doesn't have that Mr. Cartan-is-an-awesome-English-teacher feeling quite yet. It feels drab. That's okay, though. We'll un-drab-ify it soon enough.
We spent the first half of English discussing the upcoming Gatsby party. The Gatsby party is where Mr. Cartan rents out the Miner's Foundary (a cool old building in Nevada City--the Santa Paws Holiday Auction also took place there, for reference) for one night and we throw a HUGE party there. We all dress like we're from the 20's, there'll be live jazz music playing, gourmet food, and the entire place will be elaborately decorated. It'll be completely awesome. This thing, like I said, is HUGE. The approximate budget will be in between $1000-$2000, to give you an idea of exactly how in-depth the decorations and food and stuff are. We get to choose a theme for the decorations and food, too. It'll be so much fun! We'll be preparing for it for the next month.
The second half of the period was spent writing down predictions of what we believe will happen in 2005 concerning...well, everything. We were having fun toying with the ideas. Chris Selbie said he thought that the walruses would come down from Alaska and do...something-or-other, and one of the girls in the class said something about wishing Arnold Schwartzenegger (I have no idea whether that's spelled right or not) would die of bad-movie syndrome. XD
Then Cody gave me a ride home and here I am typing this LiveJournal entry (for the second time.) -_-
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go take a shower and draw some wolves.
Hopefully, I'll be back on my regular schedule of I-post-almost-every-day-but-it's-more-like-every-other-day starting today. :)
