Today's been exciting!

First off, Inca has now hatched five chicks! And they're the cutest little fluffs. They're most lovely colors! ;3; She has two more eggs as well, we'll see if those hatch, too.

Also, I went with Mom to the ReStore, which is basically like a huge thrift store in our community with tons of big things like appliances, building materials, and all kinds of things. The goal of the ReStore's profits is to provide affordable housing for people in our area, too, so it goes to a good cause. It's like a paradise for me, because I love used things in general and this is exactly the kinds of things I can use for my fowl-related projects.

Anyway, I found this AMAZING reptile enclosure and managed to haggle them down to $30 for it. I can't even believe it! It's huge and well-made and sturdy and just awesome. It was the best find.

It's already housing Inca and her chicks, and as a result they're safe, indoors, have tons of room, and it's just perfect. It even has built-in heat lighting that I could use if I needed to for mom-less chicks (which I don't usually have any more, but I digress).

The enclosure! With Minccino for comparison. Except it looks smaller in pictures than it is.

There's one break in the glass (at the top where the cardboard is), but seeing as I'll probably replace the glass with hardware cloth anyway, doesn't matter.

Tiny, tiny peepers! Like the tank but the opposite, their tiny cannot be captured by photos. If you've ever seen a regular-sized chick, these guys make them look monster-sized.

The oldest chicks, about two days old, are hamming it up for the camera, while the youngest chicks (hatched today) are hanging behind. They still look a little slicked back from hatching.

Here's their mama, Inca, who, like the rest of the flock, has terrible feather quality right now, so her markings are all faded and she looks yellowish because her feathers are old. She'll molt them out fairly soon and look all pretty again. You can see how small an adult serama is! And that's when she's all puffed out, sitting on her babies.

Peeking out!

I had a wildly unsuccessful photo day the other day with the chickens, but I got a few decent pictures. Everyone's feathers are so tattered and ugly right now, sob, it's not the right time of year to be photographing them.

I couldn't get a good picture of him because he's being a juvenile punk, but this is my cockerel from the chickies Miranda hatched. He has the weirdest colors! I had such a hard time capturing him yesterday to hold him, and when I caught him he screamed bloody murder. Anyway, he's staying, he's just too cute. I wish I could photograph how cool his colors are! He's like a blue/dun mixture.

Photobucket

Have a pair of doofy pictures of his sister and brother, who are pure white. I'm not holding them in any mean way, I promise, they're just at that age where they get all dramatic over everything.

This is Kiisa, one of my friendliest hens. You can see her old tattered feathers, and then some new pretty feathers coming in! The round, darker gray feathers with outlines are the new ones. The old ones are literally tattered, you can see how frayed they are.

Photobucket

Rocket likes to pose for pictures, haha. I have a ton of pictures of him.

Photobucket

Rocky came from the auction I went to with my work a while back. He's one of the tinest roosters I have, even tinier than most of the seramas. (Seramas are the smallest breed of chicken in the world.)

Guess what? Chicken butt! This is Willow, who also came from that auction. This picture is silly.

Photobucket

Sable, a black-tailed buff Japanese bantam a friend gave me years ago when she was moving and couldn't keep her flock any longer. She was drinking in this picture, hence the open beak.

Photobucket

Dutchess is a light brown leghorn (laying breed) that I got from a shelter months ago. She has a piece of straw on her beak! She was also drinking at the time. Leghorns are a Mediterranian breed and they're bred to have those huge floppy combs to help diffuse heat. However, sometimes the combs grow so big that it covers their eyes and other sad things like that.

Photobucket

Porcia, one of my two silver-spangled hamburg bantams. She's a zany bird who likes to jump in the feed bucket, even if she has to ricochet herself off of the coop walls. I love taking photos of her because she's so striking! I almost lost her this last winter, she got so sick, but she somehow managed to make a full recovery with meds and special treatment.

Photobucket

This is an awful picture of my naked neck hen, but I like the picture for some weird reason. I'm debating on a name for her at the moment--I'm thinking maybe Judy Plume, after the author Judy Blume? It's a silly name, but she's a silly-looking bird. I'll post a better picture of her sometime.

Photobucket

Royal, the super handsome and gorgeous (and shiny) sumatra rooster. He finally has a tail now, after a year and a half of waiting for it to grow in! I'll post full body pictures sometime soon.

Photobucket

Starlett, a spangled old english game bantam. She's also one of my friendliest hens, so I get tons of pictures of her. She likes to come check out the camera and whatever I'm doing.

Photobucket

Klondike the Canada goose, who is all grown up and magnificent now! But also super difficult to photograph becase he or she never stops moving.

Photobucket

These are my two newest ducks, Pike and Lilie. Yes, all of my call ducks are named after Princess Tutu characters. Anyway, they're cute and like to do things synchronized. Their plumage is also rather so-so, but I think it'll get better once they molt.

Here's Augustus photobombing their photo, just because it's funny:

And finally, a face shot of Captain. He's so handsome! And gigantic. Lately he's been acting like he might try to attack me, so I have to keep an eye on him. He's still young, so hopefully he'll grow out of it.

Photobucket

I just found my massive stash of animal photos I took in...May, I think? So I'll post a lot more pictures soon! I have some nice photos in there.

Lots to do currently, there are a bunch of projects going on here. Mom's been stressed out all day because she's leaving on vacation, but also one horse we were boarding here is leaving and another is coming, and someone's working on the siding of the house and it's turned into this big time-consuming thing. We're also trying to fix up the house, but everything's a mess.

Anyway, it'll work out. Just have to tear myself away from Conquest sometimes to work on other things. I'm playing my first side-story and actually really enjoying it! It's harder than the previous part of the game because of all the invasions and stuff, aaaahh! But I'm getting a lot of evolution going on and recruiting some of my warriors from before.
